Is anybody else excited about this? I was looking up information on how to plan a Christmas concert and found some great ideas and tips out there.
This is a great resource with tons of ideas, songs, themes, advice, etc.
Here are a few songs I would probably sing for fun in a primary class...
Where
is Santa? - To Frere
Jacques
Where
is Santa? Where is Santa?
(large
shrugs with the arms)
Dressed
in red, dressed in red,
(hands
go from head to feet)
Hurry
up and find him, hurry up and find
him,
(run on the spot)
I
can't wait (child
points to himself)
So
DON'T BE LATE! (loudly)
S-A-N-T-A
(Tune: Old
McDonald)
Who laughs this way, HO HO HO, S-A-N-T-A,
Who drives the sleigh through sleet and snow, S-A-N-T-A,
His hair is white, his suit is red,
He wears a red hat on his head.
Who
brings fun for girls and boys, S-A-N-T-A
Reindeer
Pokey
(Tune: Hokey Pokey) Wear brown and a reindeer headband.
Wear bell bands on the wrists.
You put your antlers in. You put your antlers out,
You put your antlers in and you shake them all about.
You do the Reindeer Pokey and you turn yourself around.
That's what it's all about!
Then you can do the ‘left hoof’ and ‘right hoof’ (hands), ‘back hooves’
(jump forward), ‘brown
tail’ (turn around and do a booty shake), and then the ‘whole reindeer’ to
end it - or repeat the first
verse.
What's that you say? What about Winter concerts? Wellllll.....
There will be singing. Oh yes.

I love your enthusiasm about Christmas.... I thought I was a big ChristmasER until I read this post! I was in a kindergarten class for practicum and songs are a huge part of every lesson so adding Christmas into the mix during this time of year is so fun!
ReplyDeleteHooray Christmas! you can do so much with Christmas as a theme in a classroom. Adding to Heather's comment I've seen Christmas songs and games used in grade 6/7 classes so it's really open to all grades that we could be teaching.
ReplyDeleteI agree...the enthusiasm of this post is contagious. I checked out the Christmas Concert idea site - lots of cute and manageable ideas and some great overall organization tips! I do love Christmas, too, but lately I've been thinking that the more multicultural our country becomes, the more teachers have a responsibility to make sure all students are included, and their cultures are also reflected. That's why I was excited to prepare the Maya Angelou Readers' Theatre - so sorry we didn't get to try it, Cheyenne. My daughter's school is in a multicultural part of Edmonton and I would like to do research with kids there to find out how they and their families feel about Christmas and how their festival traditions could be included, respectfully. Then I would like to write some performance material to reflect those insights, so that teachers have more high quality, inclusive resources. That way, I think it is less likely that someone will decide that Christmas can't be celebrated in schools.
